How to Practice Quran From Memory Without Looking at the Mushaf
A step-by-step active recall method for Quran memorization using hidden-text recitation, hints and targeted correction.
Prepare before you hide the text
Active recall works best after the passage has already been read, heard and repeated. Do not hide the Mushaf too early and turn the exercise into guessing.
Recite until you meet real resistance
Start from the beginning of the selected passage and continue without looking. When you hesitate, give yourself a moment to retrieve the next words before checking.
Use the smallest useful hint
If you are stuck, reveal only enough information to restart. Then hide the text again and continue. After the session, repeat the weak transition several times rather than simply moving on.
Repeat the whole passage again
Once weak points have been corrected, recite the entire portion again from memory. The goal is a connected recitation, not isolated success on individual ayat. Tatbith's Subac mode is designed to support this exact pattern.
